I used landscape pins to attach the matting and stuffed the holes behind the matting it with straw and straw mixed mud. Hope this helps. We used dirt from the site. Our mix is 9...Hi Kathy. We used dirt from the site. Our mix is 9 shovels of dirt, 18 shovels of sand to about 2/3rds of a five gallon bucket of chopped straw. We used linseed oil and mineral spirits to seal. First cost was 100% oil. The second coat of 75% oil to 25% mineral spirits went on 24 hours later. Next day coat #3 at 50/50 and the last coat on day 4 was 25:75. Are you building a straw bale home? We love, love, love ours!!!
